P.S. if your iMacs are new enough to have Firewire ports you can use firewire target disk mode to access the hard drive of one Mac from the other, without even having a system on the second hard drive.
To do that, connect the two Macs with a firewire cable. Boot one of the two. Then boot the second Mac while holding down the T key. The hard drive of the second Mac should then appear as a second hard drive on the desktop of the first Mac.

There are two ways to install OS 9 on a Mac.
The easy way is to boot from an OS 9 install CD by booting while holding down the C key. Then just double click on the installer.
Alternatively, just copy an OS 9 system folder to your hard drive. Then bless the system folder by opening it, dragging the Finder file to the desktop, then dropping the Finder file onto the CLOSED system folder. After that you will have to set the OS 9 folder as your startup folder in the Startup Disk control panel.
Legally, you should pay for each copy of OS 9 you use.
