Browse All TopicsI have two locations connected with a DSL Pipe over the internet. I want connect to a remote machine over the DSL to print or access files. When I go to the chooser and put the IP Address in the Address block... The connection is still not possible. Has anyone ever been able to connect to another mac over the net? Should I edit the host file in some way to resolve mac names? This question is urgent. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK, the only way you can do this is with OS9. You need to check "Enable File Sharing clients to connect over TCP/IP" in the File Sharing control panel. I do this regularly, on a daily basis, with no problems. I've done it from modem-to-modem, modem-to-DSL and DSL to DSL, no problems. Are you sure you have static IP addresses? It will be hard, if not impossible, to do it over a DHCP connection (at least connecting both ways). I've not tried printing over the internet, but it's part of OS9 and there's no reason why it shouldn't work.
