Is it safe to do banking on ipod touch using free hotspots?

Guys I was hoping to do banking on my ipod using hotspots all over europe but I've heard that it's not safe. Is there any app that I can load that would make my ipod secure? What about bank web pages aren't they secure? Don't they use encryption on their web pages? Would it be safe to bank through safari on bank's web page?

Where did you hear that it wasn't safe...?

The ipod touch and the iPhone are capable of doing 128bit encrption of secured sites (like the banking sites) you therefore dont risk anything more then using a normal PC.

You just need to be vigiliant...

Well whoever I ask they say that free wifi hotspots can be intersepted by any hacker and they can see what I'm typing in. I don't know if it's true or not or if they really know. So simple answer would be as long as the web page is encrypter (lock icon) Im safe to enter banking info or credit card number correct?

Yes, as long as the page is encrypted then it is impossible ((without a super computer and a couple of hours) that said pages that are unencrypted will be sending data in plain text...

As I said just be vigilant and you will be fine...
