Copy an Ipod Playlist to Itunes

Ok, I believe ".net" to be safe.  Thanks.  That solves one of my concerns.

My second concern:
I think I read comments in Macworld Plus from the UK recently about the stability of the 80gb Video Ipod.  I think they said that they found the video Ipod to be stable with the possible exception of some instability which occured after the use of third party utilities.  They didn't specify, as I remember, which utilities.  Hence, my second concern.  How accurate is IPODCOPY when merging with the ITUNES software?

I'm not sure about your question, One thing to take into account is that fifth generations Ipod's are NOT firewire compatible to share data.
I've only read one problem about a fifth generation Ipod and it was with another software.
Remember that you also try recovering the playlists using your Ipod as a hard disk, this will be a little more complicated but feasible.
First set your Ipod to be used as a hard disk.
On the Ipod
toggle the Hold switch on and off
push the bottom of the click wheel (play/pause) AND the top of the click wheel (Menu), when the apple logo appears Click the bottom of the wheel (play pause) and the Select (Centrer button), the Ipod should show a check mark, now you are in Hard Disk Mode. Start IpodCopy and proced to copy your playlists to your computer

I installed ipodcopy and .net.  Unfortunately wideangle has links to both .net v1 and v2.  From reading there forums and replys apparently v2 is required.  There zip file to install both has two bugs.  The temp file directories are not found.   Relocating the missing files corrects both problems and the setup file is able to complete.  Although ipodcopy can copy files from my ipod to my pc,  it cannot find Itunes.  I tried reinstall of both .net and ipodcopy.  Same problems reoccured with both the installation zip file and the program execution.  Also a new user account was created called "asp.net machine a.....".  Its a limited account and is password protected.  What is that?  I have removed both .net and ipodcopy.  I'm awaiting help from wideangle.  I have still have asp.net machine a....   But I log on as Administrator.

I installed .net 2.0 from Microsoft's web page. I installed IpodCopy.msi from wideangle's site. I had the same execution error in Ipodcopy. I got smart and traced the execution problem using my system's computer management console. In the systems log there is an error message generated by dcom. "The system could not find the file C:\applications\ipod\itunes\itunes.exe." The subdirectory itunes is empty. The exec itunes is located in the root directory c:\applications\ipod. I placed a shortcut to itunes.exe in the sub "itunes". Now ipodcopy opens itunes so that much is now working. However, after the transfer to itunes from ipod is started, this error occurs. "File transfer interrupted". And a series of red x's are placed next to each file names. It's probably caused by the error in file locations.
This might be corrected by editing the registry or by placing shortcuts to all of the itunes libraries in the directory "ipod" into the sub directory "itunes". Itunes stand alone will not execute from the shortcut. It cannot find its libraries. So file locations looks like a good bet.

I placed a "copy" of itunes.exe into the subdirectory "itunes" and deleted the shortcut.  I retried the transfer in ipodcopy to itunes.  Ipodcopy worked ok and reported the file transfer complete.   Incidently the big red X in the itunes link appears to be normal indicating the button is closed.  This is a quess.  But alas Itunes did not receive the files as indicated by ipodcopy.  When trying this a second time, Itunes reported, from within ipdocopy,  it could not find it's libraries.  I don't think its a good idea to move or copy the missing libraries from where itunes installed them.  I think duplicate libraries or moved libraries wil really screw things up. I guess we will just have to wait for our english friends to return to work.
