If You Tried Pressing The Power And Home Button Till If Goes Off And Then Turn It On With The Power Button only and is still like that you can do 2 things.

1. You Can use a program called Ziphone there is an option there to force it to boot in normal mode i can't tell you where it is because i don't know if you have mac or windows but its there cuz Ive seen it.But its not 100% guaranteed (it might not do anything)

or

2. Do a Restore with iTunes

Your Choice
Heres a link TO Ziphone

Try reformating it.
first set your Ipod to be used as a hard disk.
On the Ipod
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. press Select and Play when you see the Apple logo, the Ipod should show a check mark, now you are in Hard Disk Mode
From Windows explorer select the IPod and format it as FAT 32
Then try connecting it to ITunes.
Or you can try runnig the IPod diagnostics that are embebed on it
http://www.tongfamily.com/apple/ipod/ipod_diagnostics_and.php
The page states for Gen 4 only but I did use it on a 60 Gb IPod, so it should work with a 30 Gb.

The page I directed you has the instructions on how to use the internal diagnostics of an IPod.
There's no software to download.
Also inside ITunes there's a diagnotics rutine
On the Itunes menu Advanced>Run Diagnostics
You`ll get an image like the attached file

1. Try restoring the iPod in disk mode (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304503 will take you to instructions if you don't know how to do it in disk mode -- MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE THE DRIVE LETTER!!)

2. If that does not work, then go back into iTunes and restore the iPod as you normally would.  But, when it says "Restarting iPod" immediately quit iTunes -- Don't let it restart with it connected to iTunes!

3. The apple logo should come up on the ipod.  If you look inside the drive letter in Windows Explorer, you should see the iPod.

4. Now try to go into iTunes -- IT SHOULD be back to normal now.

THE KEY IS DO NOT LET ITUNES *RESTART* the iPod after it restores it.  This should break out of the endless 'recovery mode' cycle you are in.

Time to call apple service

by: saurabh726Posted on 2008-05-15 at 14:24:43ID: 21578111

Well in my country...i dont have call centre of apple...i guess i need to search for there outlet here..to get it resolved...but i observed one thing...all this problem started to appear once i updated the new firewall..it shux big time....

by: xemaPosted on 2008-05-15 at 15:05:58ID: 21578358

Ok
That's an important pice of information.
Have you checked if ITunes and related services have permits on your firewall?
If the firewall is preventing ITunes to download the update, the IPod is never upodated and each time you connect it need to be updated.
CLOSE the firewall and try to update the IPod.

You disconnected it before iTUnes restarted it?  Most people don't do that... it sounds to me like you have a hardware issue there of some sort that is manifesting itself in the restore mode issue....

by: saurabh726Posted on 2008-05-16 at 20:35:22ID: 21587901

Okay...here it is what i have done so far..again to test it...

1...Put the Ipod on disk mode...Change the drive alphabet...formated it...and restored it...Bump...didnt worked out...
2...Run the diagosntics tool...gave me an error ipod not connected..even though it was showing in the itunes....
3...Tried the same in Winow Vista to check about it...landed up the same thing....
4...Let the battery go completely dry and then turn it on...didnt helped either...

There is no firewall on the system which can stop it from restoring...Also i noticed one strange thing...the ipod doesnt get restored in itunes when its restoring it as in when it says restoring ipod...the restoring activity starts once it shows this message that your itunes has been restored and will appear in itunes in 15 seconds...but it dont appear in 15 seconds....it starts the restoring the ipod when this message starts...which i find weird....

Is there anything else that i can do to make it work...

saurabh726 in this page you can download it
http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/downloads/
and from
http://www.tongfamily.com/apple/ipod/
I can see it's free.
May be you are down loading it from an itermediate source that's charging for it.
Also you can download it from bittorrent.

Did you try closing ITunes before opening Yamipod?
You said tried in Windows Vista, are you trying on XP or Vista?
With Vista I've read about problems regarding Itunes Store and parental control issues
If you're in Vista be shure that you don't have any parental control blocking the access ITunes server (ITunes Store)
On any other case I'll say, you are in the land of the dead IPod owners.
