This can occur if your USB plug isnt in as far as it can go.
Firstly I would suggest plugging the docking bay into another
USB slot on your computer, after which connecting your
IPOD to the docking bay.
After this, load up Itunes. Then click on your iPod in iTunes. A screen with a picture of your iPod, and other information about your iPod will should show up.
Now there will be two buttons near the center (towards the right) of the screen: "Update Firmware" and "Restore". Click Restore.

Have you tried clicking the "Restore" button in iTunes, with the iPod connected, to restore the iPod's original settings?
