Downloading a product called from the App Store called PushMail could solve your problem.
Its not free however, costing $2.99.
The iPod Touch does not yet have push built into its firmware as of 3.1.1.

How do I get push email on my iPod Touch?
Hi all,
I have a iPod Touch 1G with the 3.0 OS installed. When I try to setup my standard Yahoo email account to push I do not have the option and it only shows the fetch options, yet it clearly states on the apple website that push for Yahoo mail is available on the iPod touch.
Does anyone know how I can get around this problem and successfully get my Yahoo mail pushed to my iPod?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Regardless of what it said on the apple site (probably a mistake) there's currently no push opton on iPod touch, not even on iPhone as of today with the latest OS.
It's been requested and discussed since it first came out, nosuch thing yet tho
