Question

Where does iTunes store its files/database?

Asked by: Sootah

I am working on a laptop for a friend that was stolen. She had a bunch of iTunes music that I'd like to recover if at all possible. So, where does iTunes store it's music/database? I have my doubts that everything can be recovered, but perhaps I'll get lucky.

Also, I've been playing with GetDataBack from Runtime Software to try to recover the deleted photos. Any other suggestions of software to use?

Thanks in advance.

you have to check the folder in iTunes options to check where its storing her music files, for me its My Documents/iTunes/My Music folder :)

and if you are trying to recover Photos, getdataback is back, trust me, i have tried and it disappointed me like hell.
for best chances of recovery, try PC Inspector >> http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm

or try Easy Photo Recovery >> http://www.easyphotorecovery.com/

these 2 softwares managed to give all my deleted images back :)

Sootah  what has happened?
Is all her data deleted? was the partition deleted?
Check the events logs
Did she have Norton installed?
http://www.geekgirls.com/windows_recycle_bin.htm

If she purchases some that would probably help
\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Downloads\
the folder will be named for the purchased video, and the name will end with .m4v.tmp.
Open iTunes.
From the Store menu, choose Check for Purchases.
Enter heraccount name and password and click the Check button.
Look in the temp folders unhide if hidden, the thing is they may have cut then and pasted into another device therefor no undelete.
my recent files etc. look in the recycler unhide the system files to find it.

The laptop was stolen and her profile deleted along with her iTunes info and photos. It's now been recovered, and I've done some scans to see what's up, but so far the prognosis isn't looking good as far as recovering her photos is concerned since the thief used the laptop the amount that he did after deleting the files.

If Norton was installed it has this feature to restore  since it does a system backup, how long was her laptop gone, I do feel for her indeed.
In time she'll move on and just be happy she has her Laptop back.
Her old  profile may still have some of the user.dat details in the Sam  log and regestry
