Problem is when I convert with iTunes it just puts all the files in a folder named unknown album and as a result I loose the file structure that identifies the tracks.

Browse All TopicsI have about 100 GB of music files that are in uncompressed wave format. These files were ripped from the CD using Windows media player.
The files are on my hard drive organized by artist and album and the files are named with the track number and name.
Example:
\Music\Pink Floyd\ The Dark Side of the Moon\ 01 Speak to Me-Breathe Pink Floyd.wav
When I open my music library in either media player or media center all the track information is there (artist, album, track name).
Now what I want to do is convert everything to apple lossless so that I can play the files in iTunes with the tag information (information does not show with .wav files and everything is marked unknown artist/ unknown album.)
I know that wave file do not hold tag information and this is why the info is not showing up in iTunes. What Im looking for is a program that can convert all the files to apple lossless (or windows media lossless) and tag them using the folder structure and file names to get the tag information.
Thanks,
eb

I get the same file name but that is not the problem. iTunes puts the converted file in a folder named unknown artist\unknown album.
Though I think if I tell iTunes not to organize my library it should keep the files in the current directories (can't try that now as not near my computer)
My biggest concern is that the file names only contain the track name and not the artist and album (that part is done by the directory structure. I looked at the tagger you posted earlier and it looks like it can create tags based on file name and folder structure so I will give it a try when I get home.

It turned out to be a multi step process
1) Make a second copy of all my music (don't want to loose my WAV files)
2) Use DBPowerAmp to convert all the files to uncompressed WMA
3) Use abander to set the tags
4) Import into iTunes and let iTunes convert to apple losless
5) Delete the WMA files I created
It was long and drawn out and you'd think there was an easier way to do this...

I think Abander tag control will do the tag creating, you can use ITunes to do the conversion and then abander to set the tags. om/tagcont rol/
