Question

Replacement iPhone not syncing music

Asked by: Martin1952

Changing from original iPhone to new iPhone 3GS has synced Contacts with Outlook perfectly, synced podcasts except the oldest 20 and the only music that syncs is the 8 samples that came with my computer. Nothing I have bought on iTunes or CD has synced. What should I do to fix this please?

You have to add it to your Audible-devices.
To do so, go to the menu "advanced" in iTunes and go into the Audible preferences.
Best thing is to delete the old iPhone and put the new one in (you can have a maximum of five devices).

Good luck!

It's all very strange. That's what I was looking for earlier but it's not there! The only relevant item I can find is "Deauthorize Audible Account" but when I click it I get a dialog "Enter your user name and password to deauthorize this computer for your audible account". Obviously I don't want to deauthorize the computer. I just want to deauthorize the old iPhone and authorize the new iPhone. It's iTunes 9.0. I've no ideas where the Audible Devices stuff has gone? Have you?

Hmm... Strange, because I'm using the same (newest) version of iTunes.

I searched for some more info on Audible, and indeed it does only work for computers.
You can share music between 5 computers.  Apart from that, you can sync a few devices (i think it is also 5) per computer, because they take it that the user of the computer is the owner of the iPod, and can be listening to one device at once only.

OK, to be clear, I now think you don't have to find it with the Audible-preferences.
Instead, go to the preferences of iTunes, and click "devices".  There you will see back-ups of all your devices.  You don't really "need" those, but iTunes might count devices here.  Try deleting all those, then quit iTunes and start iTunes again.  Try synchronizing your new iPhone now, hope it works...

Sorry Rhapsody, that didn't work.

I find Apple's online support quite useless. It's very difficult to find the support phone number on Apple iPhone Support but eventually I found it. Then they try to put you off by a voice message saying the wait is more than 10 minutes. Anyway I waited.

There were exclamation marks beside each of my songs. I wasn't given any explanation as to how this might have happened but after checking that the iTunes folder was in the C:/users/Martin/Music folder I was told to go to iTunes and under File select "add folder to library" and browse to the iTunes folder. This put all my songs into iTunes. They are now duplicated, one with an exclamation mark and one without. I synced and all the songs are now on my iPhone.

If you right click a song with an exclamation mark and click INFO in the list you get the message "The song XXXX could not be used because the original file could not be found,. Would you like to locate it?" Clicking Locate brings you to the iTunes folder.

I hope this explanation helps others too.

I reckon some of my songs disappeared somewhere along the way but who knows why?
