Getting ActiveSync to work with the Iphone

Alright here goes...

I have enabled a server cert on the Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync virtual site in IIS (is this the correct cert to make?) and I have the rights to add a mobile phone. I do not have an ISA server, but I have enabled HTTPS traffic to my exchange server(which is also the cert server) from the firewall. When i try to connect my phone it just says it cannot get the exchange mailbox information.
