The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

iPhone 3G can not connect to Exchange 2003

Hello Experts,

I've been trying to integrate the new iPhone 3G into our enviroment and it is driving me crazy, it is becoming a nightmare.

My setup is as follows Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2 running in a DELL PowerEdge 2600 with Windows 2000 server SP4.

I had enable and configured OWA succesfully with no SSL for years, before the nightmare started. Normally employees outside the office could login by typing hhtp://external IP address of the exchange server/exchange username and password and bingo you can see your inbox.

When I started the iPhone configuration I read many articles with mix information about needing the SSL certificate some said you do some said you do not. well after many failed attempts to connect without having the ssl certificate I decided to secure the OWA and created my own sefl-signed certificate. that worked fine for OWA but still no iPhone connection to the Exchange . I got fed up with the "not trusted certificate error" and decided to purchase one from network solutions.

Things got really confusing with the self-signed creation and purchase of the SSL certificate. I'm not sure how OWA is suppose to be setup or accessed, after purchasing the trusted certiciate. i can log into OWA by typing https://mail.domainname.com/exchange I am not sure if this is the correct configuration because everywhere i read it says to type https://servername.domainname.com but when I type this I get my firewall login screen. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the MX record for my domain which points to mail.domainname.com instead of servername.domainname.com

Bottom line this is the configuration i have for the iPhone

E-mail = username@domainname.com
I have tried different variations in the server field and here are the results
Server = mail.domainname.com   result (Exchange account verification failed)
Server = mail.domainname.com/exchange  result (Exchange account verification failed)
Server = servername.domainname.com/exchange result (Exchange account verification failed)
Server = servername.domainname.com result (Window pops up saying Unable to Verify Certificate once I press Accept then it displays (Exchange account verified) then it takes me to the next step which is (Select info to syncronize using exchange) everything is ON click on save and nothing happens i can not send or received or sync contacts and calendars.

Username = username or domainname\username

The last thing i read was that i needed to install the certificate in the iPhone which i just did and it got me no where, i am still getting the same results.

Nothing seems to work i have enable and disable the  wireless connection from the iPhone to the office router and use the 3G from AT&T

This is very frustrating because i am not getting any errors just a "Can not Send E-mail An error occurred while delivering this message" when i tried to send a test e-maill from the iPhone.

Any Help will be greatly appreciated.
