I just paid to join the developer program; it seems like they have to physically mail something to my house? Weird!?

Browse All TopicsHello all,
I just downloaded the iPhone SDK and have developed a simple Hello World app to test things out. It works fine in the simulator but when I try to deploy it to an iPhone I have connected (after linking it up from Organizer) I get this error:
"Your mobile device has encountered an unexpected error (0xE8000001) during the install phase: Verifying application"
Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? From reading on the net it seems like I may need to have some sort of certificate installed but I have no idea what this means. I have not yet purchased either of the developer plans so that may have something to do with it (I thought the SDK was free to mess around with on your own but you wouldn't have access to the deploy to the App store unless you paid...maybe you can't deploy like this either). I am a total noob to Mac programming and iPhones so please forgive me. Thanks.

More or less, this involves creating APP IDs, requesting certificates through a form (and using your local KeyChain Manager) and then installing a provisioning profile on your device through Xcode's Organizer tool. Some tweaking of your project file will also be needed, but it usually is just a matter of changing the name of a setting. Go over the How-To's provided by Apple ("Setting up a team", "Obtaining your certificate", "Assigning devices", "Creating your APP IDs", "Creating provisioning profiles").
Hope this helps.

I have no direct experience with this, but it was my understanding of the SDK that you needed to join the ADC iPhone Program in order to install your apps on your phone ($99) ... My guess is that the $99 gets you an electronic certificate that allows for installations.
