Is there any way of syncing outlook notes with the iphone 3G

I would like to sync my outlook notes with my iphone, but it seems impossible. Is there any way of doing this?

Many thanks

1. Run all relevant software updates. Boot Microsoft Outlook and run Help | Check for Updates. Also make sure that no new Vista updates are available before continuing to step 2. If there are new updates waiting, install them first.

2. Set up your mail account. For this how-to, I tested a Gmail account set to IMAP, which I then synchronized with Outlook 2003. (To convert your Gmail account to IMAP, head to Settings | Forwarding and POP/IMAP | IMAP Access and click Enable IMAP.) It doesn't matter what kind of e-mail account you use: The iPhone 3G will sync with both POP and IMAP accounts.

3. Delete your iPhone 3G's current mail configuration. If you've already tried this before without success, delete what's currently in the iPhone 3G and start over. From the main menu, go to Settings | Mail, Contacts, Calendars | Accounts. For any accounts listed, click each and then click the big red Delete button on the next page. The iPhone 3G can't sync over the air with an Exchange server and also sync to a desktop Outlook setup; try it and you'll see the following error message: "Your contacts are being pushed to your iPhone over the air from Microsoft Exchange" instead of the Info tab you need in one of the later steps.

4. Connect your iPhone 3G to your PC. When you do this, iTunes should fire up automatically on your PC. iTunes may prompt you to update your iPhone 3G to the latest version (2.0.2, at the time of this writing) if it's not current. Note: Be sure to also update iTunes to version 7.7.1 or later. Some users have reported online that the 7.7.1 update fixes issues related to Outlook synchronization.
5. Set Outlook contacts to synchronize. In iTunes, click on the name of your iPhone 3G underneath Devices in the left panel. Then across the top, click the second Info tab, and scroll down to the Contacts section. Check the box that says Sync contacts with Outlook, and click All contacts if it's not already selected.

6. Set calendars and e-mail messages to synchronize as well. Repeat the process for the calendar and e-mail sections, which are located just below the Contacts section.

7. Apply the changes. When you're done, click Apply. The iPhone 3G should begin synchronizing on its own. You shouldn't even have to disconnect the iPhone 3G to see if it worked. Click the iPhone's button, slide the lock to Unlock, and then check the Calendar and Contacts sections. Your Outlook data should now be on the iPhone.

From here on out, each time you synchronize your iPhone 3G, it should automatically pull mail, contacts, and calendar updates from Microsoft Outlook, and vice versa.

If you're still having trouble, leave your current e-mail account aside and add a new one in Outlook. Try creating a test Gmail account, which allows free POP and IMAP sync. Set up that test account with Outlook and again with the iPhone 3G using the steps above. This way you can isolate the problem and see if it's something related to your current account's PST file in Outlook, or a problem somewhere further down the chain.

And voila thats how you sync outlook motes with the iphone 3g

Thanks for this. However I can already sync calendar, contacts and mail. What I cannot do is get my carefully written notes to go across to the iphone! I think apple have not written this. Many thanks

Thanks. I thought as much, but was ever hopeful of a solution!
Yep unfortunately not, There are a number of people that have asked for this and if you want to leave some feedback with apple then you could as well. Whether it will make any difference is another question..!
http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
I havent seen the contacts / notes work around working but which ever way you look at it, it is quite what you want...!

This isn't anything that Apple can do about it.
Notes sync is not available in Exchange ActiveSync - ie the part that is provided by Exchange. You can complain to Apple as much as you like, they can do nothing but pass the complaints on to Microsoft. When it comes to ActiveSync, Microsoft do not have a good history of listening to complaints.

Hi docwold,
Any feedback for us...?
I was interested in reading the solution to this question... I am currently a Windows Mobille user. The device is a Dell Axim 51v. The Axim is not a phone, just a Windows Mobile v5 PDA. However, I do sync (via the Axim's USB cradle) with my Dell Windows XP laptop using Windows ActiveSync. I store all of my mail, calendar entries, contacts, and notes locally on the laptop in a personal (.pst) Outlook 2003 (SP3). In other words, I'm not using the option to sync dirtectly from my corporate Exchange server to the PDA, but just from my laptop's .pst file to the PDA. This works just fine, and I'd like to continue the practice when I purchase a 3G iPhone sometime in February. My assumption is that I can perform a USB sync from my laptop's .pst file to the iPhone, including Outlook 2003 Notes, but if someone who's tried this with success could confirm in a comment, that would be great.
Option 3 would seem the most appropriate.

I was the first person to state that it wasn't possible: http:#a23415872

JohnGerhardt provided a work around here: http:#a23419286 which may well deserve some assist points.

It could also be argued that my post about it not being an Apple issue may also deserve some points: http:#a23422475

The answer that was accepted was not the correct one to be accepted, which is why I objected.

Just checked back to this question and saw that my "prompt" was accepted as the answer.. Then saw that Mestha had beaten me to requesting some attention..
The answer to Docwold's question was "No its not possible" and therefore Mestha comment http://#a23415872
certainly deserves some points.
I think i deserve an assist for offering a way to work around it  http//:#a23419286
I dont think comments regarding feedback to apple and whether it is their issue or not  need any points....
Thanks,
Sorry havent got the hang of those links yet..!

Sorry Guys

My mistake. I tried to respond to this using my iphone and made a right mess of it. Now back at my desktop.

So Mestha is correct it isnt strictly speaking possible. John gerhardt provides a clunky but workable workaround. Therefore I should split the points equally to:

Sorry I was not quite sure how to add these links, so hope I got it correct

Best wishes

Should be shared with J Gerhardt who provided a clunky workaround
