Question

Can i access public folders from my iphone

Asked by: infologicit

I run a sb server 2003 with exchnage.
I run office on my pc and have a number of public folders including a shared calendar.
I also have an iphone which sync's with my own exchange mailbox
Is there any way i can access the shared calendar located in public folders from my iphone?
If not, is there an automated system that can be setup to copy the shared calendar to my own exchange mailbox so that it then sync's with my iphone along with all my other mailbox items.

Thanks

Peter

You cannot access public folders through the iPhone using the sync tool.
There is nothing native that will sync the calendars. You will have to go to third party tools. add2exchange from DiditBetter is the usual suggestion.

You can also sync your Exchange to a Google Calendar and use NuevaSync:

If my memory serves me right then you can access Public folders using IMAP, but certainly not with Active Sync..

Hi there. Just to clarify this solution, do you know if the add2exchange product allows Iphone users to view a public calendar or calendars separately, or only that they synchronize the public calendar to their local calendar? Unfortnately, I'm looking for the former.

There is no direct viewing solution. All solutions just sync the data in to a location where it can be picked up by the regular sync process.

Gotcha. Thanks. Someone had mentioned in my question/post that the IPhone can display multiple calendars. Just wondering how that works. They are displayed using different colors. BUT, does the Iphone figure out which calendar items are which based on the source of the message or some field? THAT could be a very useful workaround. E.g. If you sync. a public calendar to a local calendar - all items are now on the local calendar - then sync that calendar to an IPhone, will the IPhone pickup the public calendar meeting items as a different color?

No idea if that is the case with the iPhone - I suggest a new question.
