Bluetooth audio for Memo App, but not iPod?

Hi,

I have an Audi A3 which is paired with my iPhone 3G (3.01).

Phone calls, address book etc all ok.

I want to be able to play my iPod music through the stereo over bluetooth but I do not get the option to route the audio through (there is only the "Speaker" button for the iPhones internal speaker, not the picture of a a speaker with the bluetooth logo).

I'm guessing you are going to say that the car does not support streaming audio, BUT - if I go into the Voice Memo's app I can playback my memos and I DO get the button to play through my car bluetooth. When I select the Audi Bluetooth system, my car stereo lights up with "Phone" and plays the memo throught the car stereo!

My question therefore is if I can play Voice Memo's, why cant I play music?

Thanks,

J.

Your car supports voice, but not music, via bluetooth.  That's not unusual.

Thanks for the reply, but that doesn't answer the question.  My car is capable of playing streaming Bluetooth audio through the memo app, it doesn't know what type of audio it's playing!
What's the difference between playing stored audio files through the Memo App and stored audio files through the  iPod app?

The iPhone plays bluetooth music and voice separately, and looks for compatible devices for each.  Some devices are compatible with voice only, some with both.  Your car tells the iPhone that it's compatible with voice, but not with music, because your car isn't A2DP compatible.  It's the same reason you can play music from the iPhone through a stereo bluetooth headset, but not through a standard telephone type in-ear earpiece.

Hi,

Thanks again for your replies.

You have not explained the difference between Voice and Music (I could record a voice memo of music if I wanted to and stream that), so I'm going to assume that the difference between what you are calling "Voice" and "Music" is the quality of the transmission over BT?

Therefore, whilst it is technically possible to send whatever noise the iPhone wants (voice, music or random beeps etc), the iPod application chooses not to allow me to play music through the car because it doesn't support A2DP and therefore the music quality would not be up to scratch?

So - is there an iPhone app that will stream your iPod music over the voice "channel"?

I hope you understand where I'm coming from?

Thanks again,

J.
