Check the MAC network settings to make sure that it is getting the right DNS IP's
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsHello,
We have one Mac (G5 with not sure what op sys but I think it is tiger osx or the latest)....on a windows based network...
What started happing recently is the user is complaining about 3 to 5 minute page loads on internet requests - all the other pc's on our system are accessing very fast (we have 32 pc's and one mac)...
We didn't have this problem before and nothing on the network has changed - I am not really a mac troubleshooter so have no clue where to start on this.....the servers have apple talk protocol and the MAC has no problem connecting to network shares...
If someone could help me with troubleshooting this issue it would be great..
Thanks

immolation - No support, install Windows. This is not a very helpful or useful bit of advice. If you know little or nothing about Macs, then you are better not contributing to Mac-related forums.
badgermike - If everything was working perfectly for the Mac-user until recently then it is most likely to be
1. Software Update - recent fix or patch on the OSX system may have reset certain network connections
2. New software - the user installed some new application or tool that changed settings
OSX is actually quite straightforward to troubleshoot
There is a program in the Applications: Utilities folder called Network Utility and another called Activity Monitor. Between these two programs you can find out a lot about what's running on the Mac and what may be slowing it down.
You can also open a terminal window and run PING and Traceroute commands to see how long network requests take.
strung is right about double-checking the network settings in the System Preferences to see if it differs from your Windows PCs.

hello badgermike,
I know your feeling. We got a windows domain aswell. now two guys get here with a mac.
Since i'm not supporting mac i suggest they install "Parallels Desktop" for mac. install a virtual image on that and everybody happy.
Just a suggestion
