Connecting MAC to Windows 2003 server?

Tags: Appletalk
Experts,

I've successfully connected a MAC to a windows 2003 server using smb however there's a problem with files, in that when a file is created on the MAC share by the MAC user, PC users cannot see this.  Whilst connected remotely via remote desktop to the server I can see the folder ther fine, and the permissions are the same.

My colleague has advised me that the way i've set this up is wrong, and not how he did it.  I first installed Appletalk protocols, he suggested that there is another way.

Is there a way to connect the MAC to the Server using Appletalk in a different way to smb?, or a better way to ensure PC users can see the MAC created files?
