PPTP as far as i understand is a microsloth proprietary protocol. Also in my rummaging i have been unable to find a Mac client. What is the need for? Perhaps there is another way to do it?

The need is to have Macs connect to our Cisco CVPN3030 VPN concetrator.  It uses PPTP or IPsec.

PPTP and IPsec are the most prevalent VPN methods in use today for client to LAN connectivity.  I don't understand your comment.  ??

Well, as of Apple's Open Transport 1.1.1 IPsec is supported. No mention of PPTP which as mentioned, is primarily a microsoft invention.

Haven't tried it in an NT environment, sorry.  But I think it doesn't care who it connects to, it just negotiates.
