The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

#RES files???  Appear sometimes on Win PCs networked with Macs.

Asked by jbirk in Apple Networking, Appletalk

Tags: ,

Sometimes when files are copied to my windows machine from macintosh machines (across AppleTalk using pc maclan for the windows machine), the file comes over with a corresponding .*Res file (a small 2-5KB file).  Specifically I know this sometimes happens with quicktime movies, but it doesn't seem to always happen. The #res file is always named to mimic it's parent file, so if the file being copied is:
A_1.Mov
then the res would be:
A_1.Mov.#Res

Sometimes if I remove this res file, quicktime won't play the movie, or if I rename the movie and not the res file to match the movie won't play.  If I restore them or rename both to matching names again it will load ok on my windows machine.  However once I've done this I can't copy the movie to a Macintosh.  Quicktime on the Mac keeps telling me that it doesn't understand the format.

There must be an explanation for this problem and hopefully a solution?!

This is very frustrating!  Please help.

-Josh

P.S.  The #Res files are also annoying because if someone copies over 100MB in 1000 files to my computer I'll actually get around 1800 files and they take instead of 100MB, about 150MB, because of the minimum file space that a file occupies on the hard disk.Start Free Trial
