I think you'll find that what you're entering isn't a WEP key, but a WPA passphrase. My neighbour has one of this god-forsaken routers and it's definitely setup to use WPA by default.

My mate has a Mac with OSX 10.4.2 and has just brought an Orange Wireless router. He can not seem to get it connected. The network shows (Livebox-2C60) up but upon entering the password we get 'incorrect password'. We are entering the WEP key provided with the router.
Do you also happen to know if there is a web based admin interface for these Orange Routers?

Try putting a dollar sign in front of the WEP key to tell the Airport card the key is hex.
