I was trying out an Airport Express for a co-worker on my lan. I have the Express up and running, but I cannot get an new IP from Verizon because the Express IP was not released. (Accorrding to Verizon). I don't see a "release/renew" button anywhere as in my other routers. The isp IP is grayed out so you can't do anything there. I did a hard restart and the isp ip disapppeared, but I am still unable to get a new IP from Verizon. I was hoping this would release the ip. Is there something I am missing?

No we do not use PPPoE. I have an ip. It is assigned automatically from Verizon. What I need to know is the proper way to release it. On most other routers I have used, there is a release/renew button somewhere in the menu. I cannot get another ip from Verizon for my other router until I release this one.

basically what you are having is that Verizon gives an IP to your Airport Express and thinks that the lease is still not expired. I am not familiar with Verizon, but normally the ISPs has a timeout setting which if you turn off your Airport Express and leave it off for the timeout period, everything will be reset. Try turning off all the network devices and wait for 5-10 minutes, that should get everything to reset properly.

Yeah!, That was it. ( My impatience). I am use to routers that have an ip release button or ipconfig /release on windows.
I hesitated on calling Verizon as they always say they don't support Macintosh. They do. They just don't know anything about them. I have programmed Airports before, but only behind a router giving an internal ip.

Does Verizon use PPPoE? If so, do you have the Airport Express set to use PPPoE, with a proper username and password?
