Procedure for PC Notebook connection to Apple Airport LAN
I have no Apple experience. I have a customer who uses Apple hardware at home. Now that they are beginning to use laptops, I need to learn how to produce a set of instructions for enabling accesst of a WinTel laptop (XP Pro in an HP or Dell) to an Apple LAN. So far this following set of instructions have not worked.
1. Find the CD that shipped with the Apple Airport and use it to install AirPort Utility for Windows.
2. Navigate to the utility through "All Programs". Fill in the requested information.
3. Ascertain whether Windows Zero Configuration is active by navigating to the Control Panel window and opening Administrative Tools then opening Services and looking for Windows Zero Configuration. It should be started and set to Automatic. If it is not, return the notebook to me.
How should the instructions read? Do I need to worry that the latest Utiliies update is installed? Do I need to be concerned with the matching an updated Utilities version and the firmware version? Is there a difference between Airport models? What information do they need to know to fill out the information in the Utilities setup?

You only need the Airport Utility for Windows if you want to administer the Airport using the Windows machine. Assuming you simply want to access the network using it, treat it the same as you would any other access point.
