Hardware:
IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad Z61t running Windows Vista home edition
Hawking wireless networking card (it works fine with my Hawking wireless router)
AirPort Express
audio cable connects AirPort to amplifiers
I installed the AirPort Utility software. When I open it I get the following message:
"AirPort Utility was unable to find any Apple wireless devices. Please make sure the Apple wireless device you want to set uo is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then click rescan to try again."
If I open Control Panel >>> Network and Sharing Center >> Connect to a network,I can see my primary network and an "Apple Network 0118f Unsecured network which has a very strong signal. WhenI select the Apple network (I presume this is the AirPort Express) Vista gives me one of its tedious warnings:
"Apple Network 0118f is an Unsecured network"
Connect Anyway
Connect to a different network
When I select "Connect anyway" I get the message:
"Windows cannot connect to Apple Network 0118f "
Diagnose the problem
Connect to a different network
When I select the first of these options I get the following:
"Windows cannot connect to Apple Network 0118f "
Wireless association failed due to an unknown reason.
more useless information.
A couple of other points:
I don't use the Windows Firewall and
I have turned the Norton 360 Firewall off.
Still nothing.
Can anyone help?

I tried running an ether-net cable directly from my laptop to the AirPort Express. This allowed me to actually run the Airport configuration utility and set up password's and encryption. The Airport's LED flashes green, I even get an option in I-Tunes to play music through the AIrPort. But, alas I still can't connect to the AirPort wirelessly.
I have also tried disconnecting my other wireless network and the laptop still won't connect to the AirPort.
