I have a new MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.2, completely updated software versions. I have a home-office network in which PCs easily access networked hard drives and shared printers.
In the Macbook pro I've gone to Finder |go| connect to server
smb://IP address
connect
entered the correct user name and password (which is an administrator for testing purposes)
A window comes up asking me to select the volumes I want to mount-- and it shows the shared drives
1. The shared printers do not appear.
2. When I select one of the volumes (which are all correct sharable volumes), I get an error
"a volume failed to mount"
Any ideas why the volume won't mount? Why don't the shared printers show up (or is this not a valid way for getting macs to share windows printers)

Good link, but these are very basic suggestions like making sure that the password is correct, and that you can ping the Windows machine. These have been checked and are not the problem.
I've heard that the latest version of Mac OS 10 has problems connecting to Windows machines. This may be an example.
A lot of people seem to be having this problem, and the only one reporting a solution suggests increasing the irpstacksize on the Windows computer to 50 per this link: http://forum.notebookrevie
I have no idea what this is, what it does, or if it works, but it is worth a try.
