I've successfully setup Reverse Lookup Zones for several of my VLANs. All of the Windows machines are being added to these reverse lookup zones, however, none of my OSX machines are being added to these reverse lookup zones. I'd like to have both Windows and OSX machines listed in my reverse lookup zones. Any ideas?
Hi, I guess there are basically three solutions: 1. To add Mac OS machines to domain (I don't know if this is possible) 2. Configure the DCHP server to register the records on behalf of clients 3. Configure the zone to allow secure and non-secure updates.
The second point is here to support the clients that do not support dynamic updates. I know almost nothing about Macs, so I was assuming this could help.
To explain further: normally DHCP server assign the IP to Windows XP client for instance and this Win XP will update it's own entry on the DNS. This is how it works by default, because Win XP "knows" how to do that. If Mac OS doesn't know how to register the entry on Windows DNS, you can configure your DHCP server to assign the IP and "tell" the DNS, that this particular IP was issued to the client of some particular name.
