New Mac Pro running OSX 10.5, need to connect to office LAN for GB transfers and to the internet.
I have a static IP from my ISP, coming into a cable modem with a built-in router. CAT 5 directly to the Mac Pro with static IP assigned and internet access is great. Can see out and can ping the machine coming in.
Also feed from the cable modem to a NetGear router (static IP assigned coming in) with DHCP going out to connect 20 MACs on the office LAN through a gigabit switch. I can see the Mac Pro on the office LAN but data transfer rates are slow. Very slow.
When I use the second ethernet port on the NIC in the Mac Pro, connected with CAT5 to the office LAN switch and configured to get an IP from the DHCP from the NetGear router, I get fast data transfer internally but lose my connection to the internet on the Mac Pro.
Web searches turn up the possibility of adding a second NIC, others say it won't work no matter what.
I'm not a system admin but been around computers for years. Any help provided will be deeply appreciated.
