I need to join a few macs to my windows domain and also need to give them an email solution other that exchange. Does anyone have any experience with this. What email servers do we have for macs other than exchange. Thanks is advance for any help that you may provide.

Mac users can use an alternative to Active Directory called Open Directory, built in to Mac OS X Server. It provides similar (better) functionality for Macs.
I would also recommend a good IMAP mail server. Kerio has been touted as very competitive with Exchange.
Using IMAP is superior due to server-sync with clients. This means that if the CEO wants to see the same email (even flags applied) on his laptop and desktop, he can. With POP, he cannot.
