Actually my research shows that using WEP is the only way to get this to work, and they are both using channel 6 any other ideas? i set both devices to use "Wireless G" mode.

here is what i would like to do: Extend my wireless network using the Airport Express. I want to use the DLINK as the "main" wireless router and then use the Airport Express as the "Remote".
Here is what i have so far :
ssid: ntkernel
channel:6
Enc Type: WEP
This has been entered on the DLNK and it works perfectly, i am using the latest firmware on both devices (3.08 for the dlink and 6.3 for the airport express).
I have configured the airport with the above settings and:
put into "Remote mode"
Disabled the ethernet port
Enabled Bridge mode
I am using the MAC Address of the "WLAN" ending in :37 (38: for the wan) it connects for about 10 seconds and the apple light goes green then it goes back to flashing ammber which means "ahh cant connect".
Any Ideas?
Thanks in advance...
Robert

Bridge mode will connect two networks, but I think you want to allow users to connect to the Airport. If it's in bridge mode, it wants to create a connection to the other MAC address to which it's configured.
I think you want to use repeater mode.
That said, a very slick solution is to use DD-WRT which can be installed on different kinds of wireless routers. I use it on the Airlink101 devices, it supports a range of connectivity options, and it also supports Virtual Access Points, with different names and encryption.
However, everthing must run on the same "channel" (collection of frequencies).
Check into "repeater" mode
Then read about DD-WRT http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki
You may want to invest in some hardware that supports DD-WRT and create a whole mesh network if you really want some coverage !!
Hope this helps.
Jeff
PS: WPA is a better solution than WEP for security.
Thanks... to answer your ps first... ( i thought that WPA was not supported as an encrytion type when using disparate types of wirelss hardware to create a bridge) (I.e. WAP/WDS Bridge/Cloud).
I havent used DD-WRT for some time i used it on my old wap54g (the models that came out a few years ago). I have no problem hacking the firmware of my dlink. i will check into the DDWRT solution.
Thanks....

When configuring WDS or Bridging, you must make sure that both devices are using the same wireless channel and frequency. It has to be set on both devices.
Also, please do no use WEP for security. switch to WPA-PSK it is a much stronger encryption for security. WEP can be cracked in under two minutes.
