OS X 10.5 accessing windows server 2008 shared folder problem

Some back info: We had a Sun server that some macs were using as network storage. We decided to get a new server and went with Windows Server 2008 Standard. Everything is set up fine permission-wise on the server. Windows computers have no problem accessing the server share, reading files and creating files.

The macs are powerpc dual G5 computers that were running tiger (10.4.11). Tiger wouldn't connect, so we went and upgraded one of them to Leopard. That fixed the problem (probably something to do with samba and the new smb in 2008) of connecting to the 2008 share from the mac.

Okay, so here's where we are:

1. Leopard mac can connect to the server share and create folders, rename folders, delete folders.
2. Cannot copy files using the finder (drag and drop) to the server share from the mac. It creates a "unix executable file" on the server and, after 30 seconds or so of freezing up, gives this error message: "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items." Sometimes after this the computer will completely freeze and require a hard reset.
3. Here's the really weird part. I can open, let's say, an excel file on the mac. I can go to file>>save as and save it directly to the server share and all is well. Dragging and dropping the same file to the server gives the above error.

So, any ideas what is going on? I'm stumped.Start Free Trial
