Apple OS X, 10.5.7 Parental Controls not working accordingly

Hello

I have created an account which accesses just 2 websites which most often use ssl, if not always.

I have parental controls setup for simple finder and to only allow a certain amount of applications to run ("safari, textedit, stickies, calculator, firefox"). I've allowed unrestricted access to websites, even though (this brings up another problem) I want to only be able to connect to these two websites on a domain-wide level " *.site.com/* " <- Wildcard template, which I must be inputting wrong.

Back to the problem, I get the following message

"Safari can't open the page.

Safari can't open the page "http://site.com/" because it couldn't
establish a secure connection to the server "site.com".

The same type of message is received in firefox. I assume this is a parental control issues with mac os x 10.5.

This problem only occurs on one of my macs, not the other.

I think you have asked this question twice, so I'll post it on both.

Under Content tab in Parental Controls, select Allow access to only these sites. At this point do not add anything to the list. Log in as the user open safari and navigate to the site you want to give access to. Then the message "No Allowed" comes up. Click on the "Add Website" button, enter the admin name and password to add the site.

This will allow the main domain plus any subdomains. If you have bookmarked them in safari, you could add the sites with the "Add bookmark" option under the content tab in parental controls without having to log in as the user first. (Click the plus).

This problem happens always on my old mac and sometimes on my new mac.

Your solution did not work for me, though it would seem to make sense, it did not work.

Again, I get

"Safari can't open the page.

Safari can't open the page "http://domain.com" because it couldn't establish a secure connection to the server "domain.com"."

Perhaps you typed https instead of http or vise versa? If you did I could understand why it would give you an error like that. Otherwise I'm not sure why this would not work. I created a test account and did the above without any issues. You can otherwise browse "domain.com" via an uncontrolled account with no problems?

Yes, from standard accounts there's no problem. Only when using parental controls do I have this barrier between the computer and websites. These websites are financial related and typically all have https:// as the prefix.

Still, its strange

Anybody have a solution? I keep getting reminders that I have open questions, but nobody can seem to solve this bizarre behavior.

Run software updates. Look through the updates.log file on the mac that works and compare to the other mac's updates.log to see if missing update may be causing this. you may need to reinstall os x to resolve this.

I was looking for a fix, not a "You have to start from scratch". But who knows. Maybe he's right
