Question

problem installing lanier printer on mac os x 10.5.8

Asked by: flynny

Hi all,

hopefully an easy question,

We have lanier LD328c printer connected via ethernet to the network.

All the windows machines are connecting to it just fine and printer off it no problem. However we have got a mac running mac os x 10.5.8 in the office and need to be able to print off on it.

i downloaded the drivers for the mac os x from here;

http://driverscollection.com/?H=LD328c&By=Lanier

i then (bear with my i'm new to macs!) went to the printer dialog and selected the + button to add the printer

i then selected IP from the top menu, entered the IP and then selected the driver (Lanier LD328c PCL 5) which was detected automatically actually.

however when we then try to print a document from the printer, it just spews out rubbish, code etc.

Now just to add the other printers whoprint off this are all windows machines, and they connect to it through an sbs 2003 server.

have i done something wrong? is there any way i can correct this?
many thanks in advance,

Matt.

It looks to me like that driver is not actually made by Lanier.

I would look around on their website for the driver you need, and make sure it's actually for Mac OS 10.5.  Once you have that you should be in working order.

I just looked and they do have the driver on their website:

http://www.lanier.com/downloads/driverFrame.aspx?path=http://support.aficio.com/bb/html/dr_ut_e/lan_u/model/c35_45/c35_45en.htm

A good rule of thumb is to always look on the manufacturer's website before going to 3rd party driver sites.  They can cause problems.

Also, try downloading the Gutenprint drivers from here:  http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php and see if they work. They don't seem to have an LD328 driver, but the LD325 might work.

by: socratesphiloPosted on 2009-11-03 at 11:31:29ID: 25732572

I would highly recommend the manufacturer's drivers over the gutenprint drivers.

I agree, but if they don't work, then try the Gutenprint ones.

right i removed everything to do with the ld328c from the printers folder this included

library -> printers -> lanier -> profiles

library -> printers -> PPDs -> contents -> resources -> lanier LD328c .gz

and

lanier -> pritners -> PPDs -> contents -> resources -> en.lproj -> LANIER LD328C

also i installd the gluprint drivers (latest gutprint-5.2.4.dmg) and there doesnt seem to be a driver for the LD325 to try?

any ideas?

Hi thanks for all the help. It turns out the Lanier doesnt come with a postscript chip by default so this is why it cannot print the files!
