Whenever I download an office file Safari is renaming it to work with the mac equivalent - i HATE this - how can I turn this off so safari NEVER renames a file I'm downloading.
IMO this is the dumbest feature ever - if office isn't installed OS X should just re-map the .xls and .doc to the iWork app.
Before trying this, the issue should be fixed with the office 12.0.1 update.
If it still doesnt work, try this.
1. Go to the Office folder in the Applications folder in the Finder 2. Right (or ctrl) click Word and "Show Package Contents" 3. Open "Contents" and "Info.plist" 4. It should open in Property List Editor 5. Click the arrow next to "Root" 6. Scroll down and click the arrow next to "UTExportedTypeDeclarations" 7. Scroll down and click the arrow next to "2" 8. Click the arrow next to "UTTypeTagSpecification" 9. Select the row "public.mime-type" 10. Hit "Delete" 11. Save and close
You can fix the problem for PowerPoint and Excel too. Same steps as above except: 2. Right click on PowerPoint or Excel 7. For PowerPoint, click the arrow next to "7". For Excel, click the arrow next to "6"; once you've deleted the "public.mime-type" under that, click the arrow next to "10" and do the same there.
