The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

How can i receive email from home MAC computer.

Tags: mac, mail, receive, email
In my company, our email server is a exchange 2007 server. When I are working in the company, i use MAC mail program to receive and send emails, i think i am using IMAP to receive email with SSL option checked on, and use SMTP protocol to send email out. In the company, it works very well.

However, when i return to home and use my own MAC in home, I can only access my emails through OWA or web browers to get my emails. Is there any possibility to access home using the same Mail program on my home MAC. Can i just set up the same parimeters as in the company to receive the emails. Thank you.

If your company mail server is behind a firewall, you'll need to stick with OWA to get your mail from home. If not, you should be able to copy the settings from the mail client in your office, to your mail client at home.

Hi,

I don't think the mac clients support Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTP) so you would need to create a VPN tunnel into your network from your home computer into your corporate network. Once that connection is established you should be able to config the home system to connect to your exchange mailbox.

"Exchange Anywhere" isn't at play here - OP said he thinks he's using IMAP w/ SSL, not MAPI.

Are you the administrator of the Exchange server?
If not then you will need to speak to them to see what options they will allow you to use. IMAP will need to be opened on the firewall, but the administrators of the server may not allow that because it would mean anyone in the company could use that protocol to connect to the Exchange server.

In fact, i am the network administrator and exchange administrator of my company, one of my colleges gave me a request that she wants to access emails from her home MAC, and asked me to solve this problem, because she's the boss' wife, so i have no choice but try to figure out what i should do.

In our company, we do have a firewall and a exchange 2007 server, all of our employees use outlook 2003 at work, they create an account of exchange style to synchronize with our exchange server. But how can i make them access emails from how on PC or MAC,  please kindly give me some suggestions.

Thank you very much.

If you are already using IMAP then you are almost there. You just need to open the port on the firewall (993). That will allow external users to configure their IMAP client to connect to your server.

For PC users they should be using Outlook Anywhere, again that is something is easily enabled in EMC. If you already have OWA open on port 443 then nothing else needs to be done on the firewall, the entries just made to Outlook to connect.
