Disable sleep on closing Macbook lid

On a Macbook running Mac OS X (10.4), I want to be able to close the lid and have the laptop stay on (not go into sleep or hibernate). I've found solutions such as http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070302210328928 and http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/macosxhints/2006/10/sleepmode/, but those merely allow me to change the type of sleep mode, not disable it entirely.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/InsomniaX.shtml Here is a utility that claims to do the trick. You might also play with Spindown HD a utility that comes in Chud tools. You can untick sleep. When I tried it the screen still went black after I shut it  but tapping the keys to "wake" it up also typed letters into a document.

Thanks for the help. I just found this out, but apparently Apple designed it that way (not being able to easily disable sleep mode) because the laptop gets really hot and has caused the screen and keyboard to melt. As to why this doesn't happen to PCs but does not Macs, I'm not sure.
