Unfortunately not... The only way to recover from something like that would be from a backup.

This would be a great reason to upgrade to OS X leopard if you have or can buy a machine capable of running it. If you are running time machine with the new wireless backup system or an attached drive then such a file would be recoverable along with any other file type. Maybe time to upgrade.
