I have microsoft office 2004 installed on my mac. I recently tried installing software for my pda (personal digital organiser) onto the machine and for some reason it uninstalled my office.
I am trying to re-install my office 2004 software, but the computer is asking for a product key, which I have lost.
I heard that there are some downloadable programmes I can run which will enable me to find out my product key. Is that true? if so, where can I get them from?
Well if it un-installed it then there would be no key to find. MAC does not have a registry where the key can hide in an algorithm. It does have an uninstaller but you could just as well dump the entire folder in the trash. So if you still have your cd then just ring up MS and ask them for a new key. If you registered it then that would give you access. I have also heard that if you read to them the little numbers on the inside ring of the cd then they will generate a new number for you.
Sorry .. There ISN'T any program that allows you to get the full serial for MS Office on OSX.
If you registered MS Office when you installed it before you are entitled to call Microsoft and get them to re-issue you a serial number.
All websites will tell you that the only options on OSX are .. if you have a fuill system backup you can try and restore a hidden PID file as described here

Otherwise you are back to entering a valid serial number, after you get it from Microsoft or elsewhere.
