Unable to connect to Imac OS X 10.4 with Apple Remote Desktop

Asked by Peterson50 in Mac OS X, Tiger (Mac OS 10.4)

We use Apple Remote Desktop to connect to 10 Imacs in the office 10.4.11.  the product works fine, but five of the machines always are offline, I go into the sharing and make sure remote is enabled, but I am not able to connect to these computers.  The version we have is unlimited Remote Desktop.  Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks

Go into the Firewall and open up ports 5900-5902 TCP.  FOr some reason if they are not open ARD fails..

Could you provide some more information:

What version of ARD client is being used?
Are all iMacs running the same version?
What version of ARD server is being used?
Did ARD work previously on any of the machines that are showing offline?

After applying the suggestion of opening ports 5900-5902 all of the imacs work except for two and checking some stuff remotely the two which I still have problems with, one appears to be running ARD 2.2
(although updated to 10.4.11) and the other ard 3.1, both give me the problem of authentication failed when trying to observe or connect.  I checked all the privilege rights on both workstations and even created another account just for remote access and it still doesn't work.  I will attempt to download the ard update for both machines and see what happens.  The version of ARD server being used is 3.2

Thanks

I would recommend having all ARD clients at the same version level.

The other thing that has happened to me in the past is that the preference file gets corrupted, preventing proper communications.

I would remove the preference file, and then perform a network scan for your IP address space to re-add your iMacs.

You will need to re-enter the serial number and username & passwords for the iMacs again.

Do this after you upgrade all the clients.

I hope this helps.
