Inserting page numbers into iWork Pages 08

I just purchased iWork 08, but I can't figure out how to insert page numbers into a "pages" document.

In MS Word, you go to insert-->page numbers and then it gives you some options.

How do you do this in iWork Pages?

I'll assume that you want to add page numbers into a header or footer. The first thing you have to do is be able to visualize the header or footer. To do that have your document open and click on the view menu and then on Show Layout.  This shows you the header and footer.  Then click in the footer, let's say, and go to the Insert menu and then Insert Page Number.  This will drop a page number where you specify and as the document grows I believe that the pages will number appropriately.

That looks like it will work--but I have one issue with it.

Imagine if I need a name in front of the header.  Example:

Waite 1
Waite 2
Waite 3

In MS Word I can specify that Word includes a name before the number.  What about iWork?  Would I have to add my last name to every header manually?

That will work as well. If you embed any kind of text in a footer or header it shows up in everyone...just like in Word. Then you insert page number and the pages renumber appropriately and the text stays the same.

Looks like it is working.  I create a header, insert a page number, and then put my last name in front of the number.  iWork then does the rest.
