The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Widgets, Network Preferences and Software Updates won;t connect suddenly

On Monday, my various Mac widgets (Accuweather, currency converter) etc stopped been updating. They do not connect to the internet. I also have the problem that if I go to Network Preferences, I get stuck in an endless loop with a drop down box which can only be broken out of by quick mouse moves (thanks to advice on another site, so this is a known problem). I also cannot not connect to Apple software updates. So my machine is mot functioning as it was on Sunday. Finally, the connection to the internet from Parallels has stopped working, whereas it did before.

On Monday I installed the latest Security Update from Apple. This may be the problem. I am still running Tiger 10.4.11 for VPN reasons back home, but the above problems occcur without any firewall or VPN activated. I have a MacBook 2GHz Intel Core Duo.

Here are the updates I did:

2008-09-29 16:21:04 +0200: Installed "MacBook EFI Firmware Update" (1.1)
2008-09-29 16:21:18 +0200: Installed "Java for Mac OS X 10.4, Release 7" (1.0)
2008-09-29 16:21:45 +0200: Installed "QuickTime" (7.5.5)
2008-09-29 16:26:19 +0200: Installed "iTunes" (8.0)
2008-09-29 16:29:25 +0200: Installed "Security Update 2008-006 (Intel)" (1.0)
