I'm a recent convert to Mac. One thing I can't get used to is not being able to set up Finder sorting to show folders at the top of the list and files sorted thereafter.
I realize that it's possible to sort by type in Icon View, but that doesn't help a lot.
Is there a way around this or is it something I'll just have to live with?

clicking the kind column heading in list view will sort the window contents
this works for each column
clicking on heading you can sort by size, name etc. It alternates between ascending and descending each time you click it toggles the small triangle.
alas, the folders don't appear at the top of your list view when you've applied the sort, but at least they are all grouped together and easily viewed.
Windows users can find it hard to get used to the way Mac sorts & organises folders.
There is an EXCELLENT application called Path Finder which allows you to browse you Mac in a much more Windows-like manner.

It's just occurred to me that another solution is to put an underscore, apostrophe, cedilla (the key left of the numeral 1 - is that what it's called?) or hyphen at the beginning of each folder name. Should have thought of it before, it's a common website usage. Bit of a nuisance but it accomplishes my aim and works well. The apostrophe or cedilla aren't too obtrusive.
