Browse All TopicsA Mac G4 was passed on to me with a bad hard drive. I had a hard drive (40GB) that used to be used in a Windows XP PC, I installed it and tried to run OSX 10.3 setup. I used the disk utility to partition the hard drive so there is only 1 partition, the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) type. I erased it (not the zero out one), with the option to install disk drivers enabled. However, the installer is telling me I cannot install OSX to that drive because I cannot start up my computer using it.
How do I get around this?

Format the Harddrive using the GUID formatting style instead of MBR:
Select the Drive itself (not one of its partitions) in the list on the left of Disk Utility, go to the Partition tab, and click the Options.... Select GUID from the dialog that appears. Note: ALL DATA WILL BE DESTROYED ON THE DRIVE
