New Open Directory Master
We currently have a single Open Directory Master called Macserver1, it has no replicas. There are about 50 clients on 10.8.5 connected to this Open Directory.
We are buying a new mac server and want to make this the OD master, and our existing server a replica. It would probably be preferable if we could call the new server Macserver1 and rename the existing server (to Macserver2) but can you rename an OD Master?
What is the easiest way to do this w.r.t not having downtime or having to visit clients etc to re-bind?

I would think it was very, very close to what I suggested.

I'm not sure, there is a builtin backup OD option and I did have to keep the same server name for the client bindings. it also concerned me you saying 'not being an expert..'

Then you have time to solve things regarding the old server. I am not sure you really have to change the name of the old server, but you probably would get closer to the right information from here:
