I tried Vine Server, and the reverse connection seemed to do what I needed. Is there any way to program Vine Server with the reverse IP address so that it automatically connects to my VNC controlling machine?
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI would like to know if there is something like UltraVNC for Mac OS X that works as easily as UltraVNC for Windows.
I have one computer that I've set up as an UltraVNC server, with a listener. The remote users just click on the connector program I send them, the connection is made, and I can temporarily control their screen.
For Mac I have Timbuktu and Apple Remote Desktop, but they both need ports opened on the routers.
Does such a system exist for Mac OS X?
Thanks.
Larry

You can "customise" the Vine Server application before you roll it out to all your users ..
You need the Apple Developer Tools
If you do want to get the developer tools which are free if you register at http://connect.apple.com then this procedure will work to permanently set those values for a particular installation:
Using the Finder and "Open as Package" go to Vine Server.app/Contents/Resour
Double Click on Main Menu to open the NIB in Interface Builder
Double click inside the "Viewer: Host or IP" field
Just type the value you want pre-set
Command-S to Save the NIB

VNC Client for OSX - one of the best is COTVNC - Chicken of the VNC (strange name but true)
http://sourceforge.net/pro
The in-built Apple Remote Desktop in OSX is basically a VNC server however Apple provide no options to change the port from 5900 to other values therefore I recommend an alternative called Vine Server (formerly called OSXVNC)
http://sourceforge.net/pro
You can set Vine Server to operate on any port which should allow you to use one opened on your router. Just install Vine Server on each Mac and set it to run permanently or on demand.
You might also want to look at Lighthouse - a dynamic prot foprwarding utility.
