Here's one for you. I'm stumped.
Client has an iMac G5 (PowerPC) running 10.4.11. Has an MP600 connected via USB. Client complained about not being able to print anymore.
What that means upon investigation is that whenever one uses File/Print or Apple key + P, that procedure crashes each and every program that has printing capability. On the other hand, if one uses the printer icon (if the app has one), the entire document will immediately print.
Here's what I've done to try to rectify the situation:
1. Run repair function and repair permissions from install disc.
2. Reinstalled the printer driver - using fresh driver from Canon website.
3. Added a new user account.
4. Installed 'Onyx' and 'Mainmenu' 3rd party apps - run each and every cleanup and rebuild subroutines on each of those programs.
Results:
1. Repair showed nothing to repair. Permissions are fine.
2. Printer driver reinstall produced no proper printer dialog box.
3. New user account produces continued crashes on each program using File/Print, etc. Just like the default user account.
4. The use of 3rd party cleanup/repair tools did nothing to stop this issue.
I am at a loss. The OS appears to be fine given that there is nothing to repair. The new user account still doesn't produce a printer dialog box when using Apple key + P or File/Print. Printer icon on all apps EXCEPT Safair will produce a printout - but not a selective one. It's all or nothing (eg, a crash). Why Safari's printer icon produces a crash is unknown.
Client is not interested in upgrading to Leopard. Client's computer has never been registered and is thus ineligible for Apple technical support. Computer is old anyway.
Any further suggestions for troubleshooting this issue will be extremely helpful.
