Open Console.app (in the Applications\Utilities folder) and check the crash reporter logs for both iTunes and Safari.

Browse All TopicsI am trying to fix a friends MacBook. Not sure what model, it's white with 2ghz intel core duo processor running 10.4.11. iTunes and Safari open and work fine until I connect the system to a network, then both apps quit. I tried creating a new profile and Safari works fine while connect to a network. I've tried booting in safe mode, the issue continues. I've run Disk Warrior and not found any drive or system issues. I've tried starting Safari without plugins, problem persists. I was a Mac God back in System 7 days, not so much now. ;-) Look for ideas on troubleshooting the existing profile. Thank you.

Also download and re-install the Combo 10.4.11 updater:
http://www.apple.c
OK, no change after installing the 10.4.11 updater. Apps still quit when a network is connected.
Tried looking at the crash logs, wow not sure WHAT i'm looking for in all that.
Thought about upgrading to 10.5 but tried making a backup first with SuperDuper. That crashed, with an IO Error. But all my tests on the HD have passed. I'm going to try deleting the Prefs after backing them up.
Try carbon copy cloner: http://www.bombich.com
What seemed like a simple software issue ended up looking more like a harddrive problem. Carbon Copy cloner allowed me to get 94% of the data off the hard drive, I installed a new HD and cloned back. Laptop is running, user is just missing 2GB of files I couldn't pull off of old HD. Thanks all for the troubleshooting tips.
I am having same problem, PowerBook, 10.4.11, just reinstalled OSX and updated to the current Safari 4.04 and itunes 9. They run fine until the internet connection is plugged in. Safari runs for a little. Loads my homepage (simple html) which takes forever, but quits on yahoo or when opening bookmarks.
Removed the preferences as suggested above, but Safari is so slow and still quits.
