I should add that after youve disabled extensions with the shift key you need to hold down the space bar to disable multiple users.

If you are referring to multiple users, you can startup using a cd and remove the multi-user startup and multiple users from your extensions folder. This will allow you to boot normally and change the password in the filesharing control panel. You should also throw away related preferences in the prefs folder in the system folder. Just to be safe. You will have to recreate all your info, but thats ok.

Ive asked around a bit and the suggestions ive gotten is to start up with extensions off then disable Multiple Users. Dont know if itll work but its worth a shot.
