Software to lock a hard drive

We are looking for some software that will allow us to password protect a Macintosh hard drive or directories within a hard drive so that they will be read only.  Can anyone recommend some software?  Thanks.

Why not use Multiple Users control panel. Then you can restrict whatever you want depending on the login name.
