The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Suddenly Slow on Start up

My reasonably short start-up (&/or re-start) times suddenly went from around 1.5mins to near 4mins.

I noticed this when in 10.1.4, G4 400 (Yikes), 2 ITE internal HD's: newer Seagate Barracuda IV 80gb w/OSX on 15gb partition, very little data on rest of it's partitions; Orig 10gb drive has OS9.2.2.  
Classic is turned off.

It does Not seem to hang during the "checking network..." stuff, as some Apple document notes. There is a minute+ of blank screen and happy mac, a minute+ of blue screen, a minute+ of spinning color wheel...

I have since updated to 10.1.5, and start up and re-starts are still the same long wait. Once up and running, everything works ok, web browsing may be a little slower than it used to be, certainly nothing is any "snappier".

I'd sure like  a decent startup time again, as Yikes G4 does not allow fan-off sleep, so I always end up shutting down each session.
