Can Windows Streaming Video be played through QuickTime?

Can Windows Streaming Video be played through QuickTime?
The WindowsMediaPlayer has problems staying connected and its play is very choppy. Is there a plugin for  QuickTime that would let Windows Media Streams play?
If not QuickTime is there a good Mac alternative to WindowsMediaPlayer for viewing video streams?
